GRAND OPENING OF THE MUDHIF
Join us for a morning of fun and celebration for the whole family

Archaeology Now and the Arab American Educational Foundation are proud to announce the launch of the
Senan Shaibani Marsh Arabs Project

Celebrate 5,000 years of history—from the Iraqi Marshes to the marshes of the Gulf Coast of America—as we formally open the mudhif, a reed guest house from Iraq.

Master builders in Iraq created the components of the structure on the marshes and shipped them to Houston where we assembled the pieces on the campus of Rice University. It is the first time this has ever been done and it is having a pivotal impact on preserving ancient building techniques and knowledge in danger of disappearing forever!

Meet us at the Mudhif!

Dr. Azzam Alwash, Founder of Nature Iraq & Aqeel Alazraki

The largest habitat re-creation project brings back to life one of the world’s greatest marshlands. In the 1990s, Saddam Hussein drained the wetlands of Iraq and turned them into a desert, destroying a home to thousands of people and millions of birds. Azzam Alwash, the visionary Iraqi engineer and CEO of Nature Iraq will speak after the film. This BBC documentary will be introduced by Aqeel Alazraki, who was born in the Iraqi Marshes.
