The heinous hate crime against a Muslim Palestinian American family in Illinois yesterday is a direct result of the sickening rhetoric coming from the White House, elected officials, and mainstream media. Their unconditional support for Israel during a conflict that has killed thousands of innocent civilians only fuels hate of Arab and/or Muslim Americans and reinforces the dehumanization of an entire population. The killing of Wadea Al-Fayoume, a 6-year-old child stabbed 26 times, and the stabbing of his mother shows the devastating impact of systemic Islamophobia.
We call on the President, our elected officials, and mainstream media to stand on the right side of history, to be just and equitable and denounce the ethnic cleansing of innocent Palestinian civilians.
