Good afternoon,
ACCESS’ newest national institution, the Center for Arab Narratives (CAN), recently commissioned a report on the Arab American community that showcases the best available data on people with Arab ancestry in the United States. The report, written by Dr. Jen’nan Read (Chair of Sociology at Duke University) and Dr. Kristine Ajrouch (Professor of Sociology at Eastern Michigan University), offers a comprehensive view of our community, showing the uniqueness of the Arab American experience. We will be sharing more about the report over the next few months.
Using the data and analysis from the report, CAN produced a portrait of the Palestinian American community. The portrait shows that Palestinian Americans have large families and retain use of the Arabic language at higher rates than the average Arab American. The infographic is attached here and you can read the Narrative about the Palestinian American experience here: https://www.arabnarratives.org/narratives. To ensure you receive future community profiles using the latest data, please follow CAN on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ArabNarratives/
The Center for Arab Narratives works to improve the wellbeing of the Arab American and MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) communities by facilitating and sharing community-based research. CAN’s approach is both innovative and groundbreaking for its interdisciplinary methodology – bringing together sociological, anthropological, public health, psychological, and historical viewpoints to fully understand and address the needs of the Arab American community.
Love,
Maha Freij
