After more than a decade of planning, fundraising, and construction, Dearborn officially opened the MaryAnn Wright Animal Adoption and Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to saving and sheltering animals in need.
The $12.5 million center, funded through community donations and led by Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, will house over 200 animals and serve as a hub for both adoptions and humane education.
Highlights of the new facility include:
- Spacious, climate-controlled kennels for cats and dogs
- Dedicated adoption rooms and meet-and-greet areas
- An on-site veterinary exam room
- Educational programming for kids (like summer animal care camps)
- Dog training and obedience classes
- Event rentals — including birthday party packages!
The Grand Opening celebration is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 16121 Reckinger Road, featuring:
🎀 A ribbon-cutting ceremony
🚚 Food trucks
🐶 Guided tours
❤️ Discounted adoption specials
“Dearborn has always been a city with heart,” said a volunteer with FAMD. “Now we have a facility that matches the compassion of this community.”
Residents are encouraged to adopt, volunteer, or simply stop by to meet the animals and learn more about the center’s programs.
