Dearborn High School football is entering a bold new chapter with Coach Matt Giarmo taking over the program. Giarmo, a veteran coach known for his run-heavy, fundamentals-first style, brings both strategic vision and renewed excitement to a team on the rise.
This summer, Giarmo’s impact was immediately visible. Over 100 players came out for preseason workouts and 7-on-7 scrimmages, signaling increased participation and belief in the program’s future.
“It starts with doing the basics right — blocking, tackling, and being disciplined,” Giarmo said in an interview with Press & Guide. “We want to play tough, smart football.”
On July 23, the Pioneers faced off against Trenton in a summer scrimmage, where Giarmo met Trenton’s new head coach, Steve Voss, for the first time — a symbolic moment marking transition for both teams.
Dearborn fans can expect a gritty, ground-based offense and a team that’s putting in the work — with hopes of making real noise in the 2025 season.
