The so-called Abraham Accords were sold as a new era of peace in the Middle East. But today, with Gaza burning, the West Bank under siege, and holy sites in Jerusalem under constant threat, the question practically asks itself: do these agreements have any real political value left?
How can Washington, whose policy is openly tilted toward Israel, still demand Arab states to join these hollow accords? Logic dictates that if there were to be any real “Abrahamic” peace, its foundation must be in Jerusalem — the shared spiritual center of Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike. Yet the United States and its allies have never compelled Israel to respect Muslim and Christian holy sites in occupied Palestine. Instead, Israel parades a false “moderation” abroad while crushing the very communities the accords supposedly unite.
“If there was genuine will for peace, the U.S. and the West would have forced Israel to respect the sanctity of Palestine’s holy sites — not applaud its fake gestures outside the land of these faiths.” — Dr. Zaid bin Ali Al-Fadheel
Even more jarring for Arab Christians and Muslims is the rhetoric coming from U.S. representatives. Former Arkansas governor and Trump ally Mike Huckabee, speaking in Israel, declared before a rabbi:
“You are God’s chosen people, given a chosen place for a chosen purpose. Anyone who angers the Lord will anger those who represent Him. This is not about left or right — it is a battle between good and evil, between the Creator and those who rebel against Him.”
When America’s ambassadors to Israel frame the conflict in biblical terms, casting unconditional support for Israel as a divine mandate, what credibility remains in their calls for “peace” through the Abraham Accords?
Why it matters for Dearborn
Arab Americans — Muslim and Christian alike — see through the doublespeak. A real peace agreement would require justice, dignity, and respect for all faiths in Palestine, not an international PR campaign to normalize occupation. For a city like Dearborn, often called the “capital of Arab America,” this collapse of illusion is no surprise. We know what hollow promises sound like.
