Beyond the Duopoly: Why Professor Butch Ware is the Radical Voice Dearborn Needs

By The Dearborn Greens / Dearborn Blog Staff

For decades, the people of Dearborn have been told that our political safety lies in playing the “lesser of two evils” game. We’ve been told that if we just knock on enough doors for the “Fox” (the smiling liberal), we might avoid the teeth of the “Wolf” (the snarling conservative).

But as the bombs fall on Gaza with the full signature of the Democratic establishment, and as our working-class families struggle to keep up with a system rigged for billionaires, Dearborn has reached a breaking point. We are done being “political chumps.”

In a recent, powerful interview on The Thinking Muslim, Professor Bilal Butch Ware—the Green Party’s candidate for Governor of California and a leading voice in the New Age Black Muslim revolutionary tradition—laid out exactly why the old ways are dead.

The Malcolm X Legacy: The Ballot or the Bullet

Professor Ware reminds us that our tradition isn’t one of submission, but of resistance. Drawing from the autobiography of Malcolm X, which brought him to Islam at age 15, Ware argues that we must utilize electoral politics not to “fit in” to the Democratic Party, but to organize our own power [03:22].

Malcolm X warned us in 1964 that the “white liberal is the most dangerous thing in the Western Hemisphere” because they hunt by guile and deception [10:34]. In 2024, we saw this manifest. While the Democrats talked about “shared values,” they muzzled Palestinian voices at the DNC and funded the slaughter of our brothers and sisters [16:00].

The 2024 Shift: Dearborn Led the Way

The corporate media wants you to think the Green Party is a “spoiler.” But Professor Ware points to a truth we know well here in Dearborn: The Muslims have already opted out of the duopoly plantation. Exit polls from 2024 show that over 53% of American Muslims nationwide voted for the Stein/Ware ticket [16:45]. We were the first major demographic in 150 years to break the two-party system. We aren’t “spoiling” anything—we are building something new. As Ware says, if everyone in America voted the way the Muslims voted, he’d be in the White House right now [17:48].

Solidarity Beyond Identity

One of the most refreshing parts of Professor Ware’s platform is his refusal to get sucked into the “culture wars” designed to keep the working class divided. He shares a story of speaking to a conservative couple on a plane, moving them from Trump supporters to Green supporters by focusing on one simple thing: Stopping the laundering of our tax dollars through foreign genocides to line the pockets of weapons manufacturers [29:12].

Whether you are a shop owner on Warren Ave or a working-class family in California, the message is the same: We are tired of being called names by liberals while being robbed by the billionaire class.

Why We Stand With Butch Ware

Professor Ware is now running for Governor of California—the third-largest economy in the world—to prove that a populist, anti-imperialist message can win [01:02:27]. His plan is simple:

  • Tax the Billionaires: A 2% tax on California’s 186 billionaires would mean no one making under $100k would pay state taxes [01:06:01].
  • Universal Healthcare and Housing: Treating these as human rights, not commodities [01:04:51].
  • Real Resistance: Refusing to obey unconstitutional federal orders or coordinate with ICE, protecting the most vulnerable among us [04:43:00].

It’s Time to Organize

Dearborn has always been the heart of the movement. We showed the world that we will not be ignored. Now, we must follow the lead of brothers like Professor Butch Ware.

We aren’t outnumbered; we are just out-organized. It’s time to stop picking through the scraps of what the billionaire class lets us have [01:02:00] and start building a future that belongs to us.

Stay Radical. Stay Green. Support the Movement.
