Sally Howell is Associate Professor of History at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Director of the Center for Arab American Studies. Her books include Citizenship and Crisis: Arab Detroit After 9/11, Arab Detroit 9/11: Life in the Terror Decade, and Old Islam in Detroit: Rediscovering the Muslim American Past. Old Islam in Detroit received the 2015 Arab American Book Award. Howell is currently a curator for the Halal Metropolis exhibition series exploring the politics and aesthetics of Muslim visibility in Detroit.

Arab American Center for Culture and Arts and Dearborn Blog present the 10th episode of the Arab Identity series with Guest Dr. Abbas Kadhim, Director of the Iraq Initiative at the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C, talking about the Great Iraqi Revolt of 1920 and the formation of the state of Iraq hereafter. Dr. Kadhim earned his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006. Between 2005 and 2013 he was an Assistant Professor of National Security Affairs/Middle East Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University. Dr. Kadhim has more than 15 years of experience advising various U.S. Government officials and personnel (Executive & Legislative). He is the author of Reclaiming Iraq: the 1920 Revolution and the Founding of the Modern State, Austin: University of Texas Press; and “The Hawza under Siege: A Study in the Ba’th Party Archives“, Boston University.
