Dearborn, MI – Over the last several months five Detroit-area photographers have ventured out to capture the images and essences of some of the most iconic and beloved “Holes in the Wall” diners and restaurants in our area. A term of affection, a “hole in the wall” references those special, often overlooked destinations where hot food is served in a more personal, non-corporate atmosphere, where the conversations can be casual and friendly – even passionate – and where friendships can be made to last – or sometimes fade. Many folks have had their favorites through the years – perhaps too many to mention – and certainly too many to adequately represent in a single series of photographs and paintings. However, nearly 50 images representing eight different establishments have been lovingly produced in this Padzieski Gallery exhibition including painted interpretations on canvas by several outstanding Detroit-area artists of those photographic depictions of “Holes in the Wall.”
Photographers Tim Tonachella, Jim Aho, Danny Rebb, Michael Kearney and Glenn Kujansuu along with painters Sharlene Welton, John Lange, Jack Noremac, Carrie Care Wheeler, Elizabeth Gullikson and Joe Hosler come together to present this special collaborative exhibit featuring the following “Holes in the Wall”: Farmer’s Restaurant – Detroit, Becky’s Nip ‘N Tuck Diner – Berkley, Greene’s Hamburgers – Farmington Hills, Scotty Simpson’s Fish and Chips – Detroit, Duly’s Place – Detroit
Hygrade Deli – Detroit, Bates Hamburgers – Livonia, and Red Hots Coney Island – Highland Park.
