The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels as evidence mounts regarding the systematic starvation and violence against Palestinians, aided by U.S. government policies and funding. Members of Congress, human rights organizations, and whistleblowers have recently come forward with alarming reports that highlight the urgent need for change in U.S. policy toward Israel.
Congressional representatives have been increasingly vocal about this issue. Representative Chuy Garcia strongly criticized the Israeli government’s strategy in Gaza, stating, “What we’re seeing in Gaza is the systematic starvation of its people by the Israeli govt., along with frequent attacks near aid distribution centers that should be safe. We must do everything in our power to stop this mass starvation” (IMEU Policy Project).
Senator Chris Van Hollen condemned U.S. involvement after reports emerged of American contractors attacking Palestinians seeking food, emphasizing, “It is unconscionable that American taxpayers are paying for these killings. Shame, shame on Donald Trump and the complicity of everyone who continues to look the other way” (IMEU Policy Project).
Representative Rashida Tlaib, a prominent voice against the ongoing atrocities, described the situation bluntly: "Nearly every day this month, Israeli forces have deliberately shot and killed starving Palestinians seeking food. Now, the Trump Admin has decided to support this death trap with $30 million. This is genocide—we are funding it. And the world is doing nothing to stop it" (IMEU Policy Project).
This growing crisis is exacerbated by the recent Trump administration announcement of a new weapons shipment to Israel, valued at $510 million, including Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) kits. These munitions have already been linked to war crimes, notably the recent deadly strike on Al-Baqa Cafe in Gaza City that killed over 30 Palestinians, including artists Amna Al-Sami and Ismail Abu Hatab. Munitions expert Trevor Ball identified fragments confirming the use of a U.S.-made JDAM kit (The Guardian).
Furthermore, humanitarian aid intended for Gaza through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), funded by the U.S., has come under scrutiny. A group of 19 U.S. Representatives, led by Rashida Tlaib, condemned GHF’s failure to uphold humanitarian standards, pointing to its ineffectiveness and complicity in Israel’s blockade strategy, which has resulted in nearly 750 Palestinian deaths and almost 5,000 injuries since late May (IMEU Policy Project).
Amnesty International recently issued a damning report accusing Israel of using starvation as a genocidal tactic. Their investigation confirmed that aid sites have become deadly traps, deliberately set to exploit Palestinians desperate for food, reinforcing Israel’s genocidal aims.
Additionally, a shocking Associated Press report detailed U.S. contractors’ violent actions against Palestinians at GHF sites. Whistleblowers provided evidence of contractors using firearms, stun grenades, and pepper spray against starving Palestinians, sometimes coordinating directly with Israeli military forces. This coordination included the disturbing use of facial recognition technology to identify and target individuals (Associated Press).
The evidence makes it clear: the U.S. government’s policies are directly complicit in these atrocities. Congress must act urgently to halt further weapon shipments by supporting the Block the Bombs Act, ensuring that American taxpayer dollars are no longer fueling violence and genocide against Palestinians.
