Arab Identity Eps 13 – Arabs Past and Present with Dr. Nabeel Abraham

The Ancient Past of Arabs & How It Shapes Their Presence and Future Saturday Jan 29, 2022 at 11:00am est Nabeel Abraham has devoted his life’s work to the study of Arab Detroit and Arab Americans generally. His writing on various aspects of the community span four decades. He coedited, two volumes of the Arab Detroit series, as well as a forthcoming volume titled, Hadha Baladuna of creative writing (Wayne State University Press). In addition to other collections, Abraham has contributed numerous essays in various journals, books, and encyclopedias. Abraham taught anthropology at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan, for three decades, where he also directed the Honors Program until his retirement in 2013. Abraham served as executive director of the Association of Arab American University Graduates, Inc., from 1979 to 1980. He also established the Detroit Regional Office of the ADC, serving as its local spokesman and adviser from 1980 to 1985. Abraham’s experiences growing up in Detroit starting in the 1950s provides much of the material on which he draws for his current work.

Dr. Kadhim earned his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006. Between 2005 and 2013 he was an Assistant Professor of National Security Affairs/Middle East Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University. Dr. Kadhim has more than 15 years of experience advising various U.S. Government officials and personnel (Executive & Legislative). He is the author of Reclaiming Iraq: the 1920 Revolution and the Founding of the Modern State, Austin: University of Texas Press; and “The Hawza under Siege: A Study in the Ba’th Party Archives“, Boston University.
