It began in response to corruption and economic stagnation and was influenced by the Tunisian Revolution. After 11 years, the lives of people in Arab Spring countries have improved in certain aspects but worsened in others.

The Ancient Past of Arabs & How It Shapes Their Presence and Future Saturday Jan 29, 2022 at 11:00am est Nabeel Abraham has devoted his life’s work to the study of Arab Detroit and Arab Americans generally. His writing on various aspects of the community span four decades. He coedited, two volumes of the Arab Detroit series, as well as a forthcoming volume titled, Hadha Baladuna of creative writing (Wayne State University Press). In addition to other collections, Abraham has contributed numerous essays in various journals, books, and encyclopedias. Abraham taught anthropology at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan, for three decades, where he also directed the Honors Program until his retirement in 2013. Abraham served as executive director of the Association of Arab American University Graduates, Inc., from 1979 to 1980. He also established the Detroit Regional Office of the ADC, serving as its local spokesman and adviser from 1980 to 1985. Abraham’s experiences growing up in Detroit starting in the 1950s provides much of the material on which he draws for his current work.

SUBSCRIBEDالهوية العربية الحلقة الحادية عشر: الهوية العربية وعلاقتها بالقومية مع الأستاذ محمد العزير إعداد وتقديم السيد وسام شرف الدين محمد العزير إعلامي وكاتب أميركي من أصل لبناني. بدأ مسيرته المهنية في صحيفة "السفير" اللبنانية في عام 1980. هاجر إلى الولايات المتحدة في عام 1985 ليتولى إدارة تحرير القسم العربي في صحيفة "صدى الوطن" في ولاية ميشيغن، وكان عضوًا مؤسسًا في وكالة "نيو أميركا ميديا" التي تُعنى بالإعلام الثنائي اللغة في عام 1997، ومحررًا فيها حتى عام 2017. حاصل على شهادة الماجستير من جامعة سان فرانسيسكو في كاليفورنيا، وأكمل برنامج الدكتوراه في العلوم السياسية في جامعة وين ستيت بديترويت في ميشيغن. درّس اللغة العربية في جامعة ميشيغن. وصدرت له رواية "تغريبة وطن"، ومجموعة قصصية بعنوان "الأربعة الحلال وقصص أخرى". صدر له مؤخراً كتاب حياة الديمقراطية وموتها، وهو ترجمة لكتاب جون كين بالإنكليزية The Life and Death of Democracy

Sally Howell is Associate Professor of History at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Director of the Center for Arab American Studies. Her books include Citizenship and Crisis: Arab Detroit After 9/11, Arab Detroit 9/11: Life in the Terror Decade, and Old Islam in Detroit: Rediscovering the Muslim American Past. Old Islam in Detroit received the 2015 Arab American Book Award. Howell is currently a curator for the Halal Metropolis exhibition series exploring the politics and aesthetics of Muslim visibility in Detroit.
